Project: Zoology of land vertebrates
     Principal Researchers: Dr. Sergio Ticul Álvarez Castañeda and Dr. Patricia Galina Tessaro
 

Specific Objectives

  1. Develop top quality graduate students;
  2. Perform research and spread results;
  3. Study land vertebrate species: biologic, ecologic, and reproductive processes;
  4. Increase the cultural heritage of the museum;
  5. Obtain financial resources to perform research.
   
Project: Herbarium
  Principal Researcher: Dr. José Luis León de La Luz.

Specific Objectives

  1. Develop bachelor and graduate students with works that are based on knowledge of plant diversity;
  2. Perform research and spread the results through publications and presentations in symposiums and congresses;
  3. Increase the cultural heritage of the collection in general daily.
   
Project: Icthyology
  Principal Researcher: Dr. Eduardo Balart

Specific Objectives

  1. For 2009 the main activities of the Icthyology Laboratory center on phylogeny and evolution projects of haemulidae present in both coasts of America; ecomorphology and evolution of the Pomacentridae family in the American Pacific coasts; Bar Code Project(Mex-Bol; Fish-Bol); and preparation of the discussed list of species present in the western coast of Baja California Sur, as background of a project of greater magnitude which is the publication of a book.
   
Project: Entomology and arachnology
  Principal Researcher: Dr. María Luisa Jiménez Jiménez

Specific Objectives

  1. Strengthen collaboration with the Spider Collection of California Academy of Sciences, Spider Collection of the Natural History Museum of New York, and the Museum of Campartive Zoology of Harvard University, as well as national collections such as Aracnológica of the School of Biological Sciences of Universidad de Nuevo León, and Colección Nacional Aracnológica of UNAM. The Collection has also supported the science outreach program  PACE;
  2. Increase the spider collection with a project related to spiders from the dry land areas of Mexico with the collaboration of Dr. Pablo Corchera from UAM, Dr. Carlos Solís from  Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Dr. Norman Platnick from AMNH to perform taxonomic reviews at the levels of family, genera, and species group with their respective phylogenetic analysis.
  3. Develop human resources in Arachnology with students at bachelor, master, and doctoral levels.
   
Project: Scientific Crustacea Collection
  Principal Researcher: Dr. Alejandro M. Maeda Martínez

Objectives

  1. Have representative material of 100% of the collection of crustacea;
  2. Form a reference collection of land isopods of Mexico and coastal and fresh water caridea decapods of Northwest Mexico;
  3. Continue with the permanent assessment program on species conservation and perform habitat protection activities;
  4. Continue with the molecular characterization (mitochondrial DNA) of non-cladoceran branchiopods of Mexico and the Macrobrachium species of the country.
